It was 5am on a Tuesday, just a few days before Christmas and I had set the alarm to get up extra early that day. I had somewhere important I needed to be, and I was determined to get there by 5:45am. When I arrived at my destination, I was thrilled to find out that I was the first person to get there. It was going guarantee me of getting what I was after.
So, where was I going, what was so important that I sacrificed a few hours of sleep to get it? It was a Zhu Zhu Pet. My granddaughter wanted one for Christmas. A few days prior I didn't even know such a thing existed. But she wanted one, and I did some research and found out that WalMart would be getting a few in each day before Christmas and they would be available to those that got in line prior to 7am. Not only was I the first in line, but that privilege allowed me to have first pick of the toy and any of the accessories they had available that day.
My granddaughter has no idea what I did to get her the gift she had her heart set on. It isn't important for her to know. What is important is that I was able to give her what her heart desired, and therein is the great reward for me. Seeing her face light up when she opened her gift. Wowwords cannot describe it.
It got me thinking about the level of commitment it took for me to get her that gift. If that same level of commitment is applied to anything in life, do you think the results would be great, too? It would. So often, though, we settle for mediocre, rather than reaching the extra distance to achieve greatness. I've been guilty of that numerous times.
What would happen to your business if you stretched yourself a little farther? The stuff that comes easy to you, you don't struggle with that, right? But the harder stuff, maybe even the technical stuff, do you avoid those things because they appear too hard? There's little reward in doing the easy stuff. The true winners are those that stretch themselves on a daily basis to achieve greatness.
I encourage you to look at each day as a new opportunity to stretch yourself a little further in your business. Learn new technology that you can apply to your business, go the extra distance that your competitors aren't doing. It will set your business apart from all the rest, and make it easier for your customers and prospects to decide to work with you because you have made yourself known to be an individual that gives their best to whatever they do.
Ask yourself this question: "Would I do business with me?" I know that seems like a silly question, but I'm asking you to be totally honest here. The answer may have a rather painful answer. If it does, then look at ways to improve, and then take action! Making a little correction and stretching yourself a little further each day will make a tremendous difference in your results over time. You'll be able to look back a year from now and see a huge difference in your results.
Make a commitment to your business the same way you commit to those you care about the most. You're going to love the results!
