Making hunks chunks of cash on eBay during the holidays - Business - ECommerce

Making piles of money during the holidays is actually very easy, especially if you do it by selling stuff on eBay. The fact is that the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is one of the busiest shopping seasons of the entire year. These days especially, it's easier than ever to make that money. Don't forget that the recession is going on right now and so people are trying every which way they can to save a few dollars. One of the ways people are trying to do that is by buying things through auctions on eBay.

There is a perception by many people that they can save money by making their purchases on eBay since the starting prices tend to be so low. However, as you as an eBay seller ought to know, most people end up spending the same amount or even more than they would have if they'd simply bought it at retail to begin with.

However, even with all that, you do need to know what to sell in order to make hunks of cash on eBay during the holidays. This is not nearly as hard as it may sound. Basically, what you need to do is to spend some time learning about the hottest trends and then actually go out and buy those things. For example, this holiday season one of the hottest toys is the Zhu Zhu pet hamster. They're small furry dolls from Japan and they are all the rage with kids. If you had purchased some early enough, you could be making a ton of money selling them off on eBay for four times what you paid for them.

Another perennially hot item is electronics. The great thing about selling electronics is that no matter what people have, they always want the newest, the best, the greatest. Even these days when the recession is battering American homes everywhere, people will still spend to buy electronics, but they'll try to do it a little smarter. Try offering quality merchandise at discount prices. Find out what some of your drop shippers can offer you as a price and see if you can slash prices while still maintaining a profit margin. Volume is key but fortunately, you will have that volume during the holiday season.

Whatever it is that you choose to promote during the holidays, a few rules apply equally:

* Offer shipping by December 25. This is vital as so many people will be shopping with Christmas in mind and will happily pay extra for expedited shipping services. If you want to be really creative, offer three shipping dates, for Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanza.

* Offer gift wrapping service. You can easily charge an extra $10 for the privilege of having a gift gift wrapped with a small, simple card inserted. You can buy laser printable cards at an office supply store such as Staples and gift wrap can be had for just 99 cents at many 99 cent stores. If you're good at wrapping, this can not only be a lucrative extra for you, but it can also help drive sales.

* Make sure to mention why what you are offering is the perfect gift. It doesn't matter what it is that you are offering - always describe it as the perfect gift since that is what the season is all about.
